THE PLEASERS / CURRENT PROJECT
Benham / McNerney of The Pleasers.
Bo Benham and Steve McNerney, founders and principal songwriters of the acclaimed late-1970s power pop band The Pleasers, have reunited to write and record new music. Widely recognised as pioneers of the power pop revival, The Pleasers were credited by the British music press with helping to spark what became known as the Thamesbeat movement.
Following the sad loss of their bandmates guitarist Nick Powell and drummer Dave Rochelle in 2020, Benham and McNerney came back together, initially just for the enjoyment of writing and recording again. What began as a casual collaboration soon grew into something far more ambitious, eventually becoming a brand-new studio album.
ABBEY ROAD
The project reached a special milestone on 12 February 2024, when the album was mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios the very place where The Pleasers first recorded in 1977 with renowned producer Ron Richards. Returning to Abbey Road marked a poignant full-circle moment, reconnecting the duo with their musical roots while launching an exciting new chapter.
ONE SECOND IN TIME
More than 40 years after their last recordings together, Benham / McNerney returned with the critically acclaimed single One Second In Time, the title track from their new album, released in the summer of 2025. They have since followed it with their latest single, Bumping Off The Barrier.
Power pop is back and Benham / McNerney are proving that The Pleasers' unmistakable songwriting spirit is as vibrant and relevant today as ever.
